There is something deeply encouraging about watching a young person return to the very place where their journey began – not simply to visit, but to share what they have learned and help others discover their own potential.
On August 29th and 30th, students from the DHI’s – Rachel’s Hope University Scholarship (RHS) program returned to Camp Brethren Schools with a special mission: to invest in the next generation of students through leadership training, mentorship, and career guidance. For these university scholars, the visit represented an important milestone in their leadership journey. Having benefited from the opportunities provided by Camp Brethren High School and now pursuing their studies at Kabarak University, they were eager to give back to the school community that helped shape them. Throughout the two-day program, the scholars facilitated sessions tailored to different age groups.
For Grades 7–9, the focus was on Lead Self – helping younger students understand the importance of personal responsibility, discipline, confidence, character, and making wise choices.
For Grades 10–11, the scholars introduced Lead Others, encouraging students to think beyond themselves and understand leadership through teamwork, empathy, communication, and service.
These lessons are part of the structured RHS Leadership Academy, which equips scholars with practical life skills and biblical principles of servant leadership alongside their university education. What made the training particularly meaningful was the relationship between the facilitators and their audience. The younger students were not listening to distant professionals or unfamiliar speakers. They were learning from former Camp Brethren students who had once sat in the same classrooms, faced similar challenges, and worked toward the same dreams. Seeing these former students confidently leading discussions and sharing their experiences offered a powerful message: with determination, faith, mentorship, and opportunity, their own dreams can also become reality.

The RHS scholars also spent time with Grade 12 students, providing career guidance as they prepare for life after high school.
The discussions explored university courses, career opportunities, academic requirements, and what students need to consider when choosing their future paths. The scholars also explained the Rachel’s Hope Scholarship program, its expectations, and the opportunities it offers eligible Camp Brethren graduates.
For many Grade 12 students, these conversations are especially valuable as they prepare for their national examinations and begin making important decisions about their futures.
Beyond helping students understand university life, the sessions gave them something equally important – encouragement from young people who are already walking the path they hope to follow.
Leadership That Multiplies
Perhaps the most exciting part of this story is what it reveals about the long-term vision of Rachel’s Hope. The program was never intended to provide university tuition alone. Its greater purpose is to develop Christ-centered, capable, and compassionate leaders who will use their education and influence to serve others. Through the four-year RHS Leadership Academy, scholars are trained in personal leadership, leading others, financial stewardship, mentorship, and practical life skills.
Now, we are beginning to see those lessons put into action. Rather than keeping their knowledge to themselves, these scholars are returning to their communities and passing it on. They are discovering that leadership is not measured simply by what they achieve personally, but by the people they help grow along the way.
“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” — 2 Timothy 2:2
Looking ahead, the RHS team is planning to make these school-based leadership sessions a regular part of the program, with at least two visits each year. Future sessions will explore Lead Self, Lead Others, resource management, and biblical stewardship in greater depth, helping students develop these values progressively throughout their school years. We are grateful to the Camp Brethren Schools administration for welcoming the scholars and creating opportunities for this valuable exchange. We also celebrate the RHS students for taking initiative and demonstrating that servant leadership begins with a willingness to share what God has entrusted to us.
Help Raise the Next Generation of Leaders
As we celebrate the leadership and growth of our Rachel’s Hope scholars, we are reminded that none of these opportunities would be possible without the generosity of people who believe in investing in young lives.
Today, Rachel’s Hope Scholarship supports 17 university students at Kabarak University, equipping them with quality education, Christian mentorship, and practical leadership training. These young men and women are not only working toward their degrees; they are preparing to become servant leaders who will positively influence their families, churches, and communities.
However, only 5 of our 17 scholars currently have committed sponsors. That means 12 students are still waiting for sponsorship support.
Our vision continues to grow! In May 2027, we prayerfully plan to welcome another 6 to 9 deserving Camp Brethren High School graduates into the scholarship program. This would bring the total number of scholars to between 23 and 26, creating even more opportunities for young people to pursue their dreams and become Christ-centered leaders. But to sustain this growth, we need partners willing to invest in these students.
For just $250 per month, or $3,000 per year, you can sponsor a university student through the Rachel’s Hope University Scholarship.
Your sponsorship helps provide:
-
University tuition — Giving a deserving student access to higher education.
-
Safe housing and essential living support — Providing a stable environment where scholars can focus on their studies.
-
Christian leadership training and mentorship — Equipping scholars with biblical values, character, and practical skills to lead and serve others.
-
Learning and mentorship materials — Supporting their academic, spiritual, and personal development.
Imagine the difference your partnership and support can make. A student who once dreamed of attending university can now pursue a degree, discover their God-given potential, and return to their community to inspire others—just as our scholars are already doing at Camp Brethren Schools.
Our immediate goal is to find sponsors for the 12 students who are currently without committed sponsorship. At $250 per month per student, that represents $3,000 in yearly sponsorship commitments, or $12,000 for the entire 4 academic study period, to support 1 student.
And as we prepare to welcome more scholars in May 2027, every new sponsorship helps us build a stronger foundation for the future.
Would you prayerfully consider becoming one of the partners we need today?
Your generosity is more than financial assistance. It is an investment in a young person’s education, faith, leadership, and future – and in the communities they will one day serve.
Together, we can turn educational opportunities into lasting community transformation, one scholar at a time.
