The ingenuity of drilling into the volcanic ground for water (steam) has been a lifesaver for people in Eburru during long periods of drought. Many rely on collecting rain water for their daily need, so when rain is not coming, they have to walk to steam collection sites. Often long ways to walk, carrying cans of water.
CBM is constantly expanding their steam/water harvesting at the high school.
During my recent visit, tanks were being added to collect the water (hot water!), as well as tanks on the hillside above the school.
Water is being pumped from the collection tanks below to the tanks above, which again supplies the school kitchen and dorms.
People in the community has also been able to come here to get water when rain has failed to fall.
Just another of CBM’s ministry in action.
