Missions team updates from Emma Overmyer

The last time I was in Eburru was July of 2013, when I came with a team from MBC, PW for two weeks. Since then, I have been longing to come back for a longer trip, and now I am finally here! My main purpose in coming on this trip was to do an internship under Mary at Kijabe hospital, as I am applying to medical school so that I can do medical missions, but I will also be spending time working at Camp brethren Christian school & supporting and encouraging the staff there.

One of the things I love about Kenya is the concept of ‘Kenyan time’. This is essentially the idea that things take as long as they take, and that people matter more than schedules. Coming from Washington DC, this is a very different way of life! We have a culture of self-reliance, require an organized schedule to function, and tend to micro-manage. Being with Steve and Mary and seeing their faith and go-with-the-flow attitude is not only inspiring, but also is a refreshing reminder that there is a Greater plan whether or not we try to create our own agendas. Jesus assures us not to worry about tomorrow, and that the Lord takes care of even the birds of the air. Pastor Steve will tell you: ‘The Lord will provide’.

This is very evident by the progress that has been made at Camp Brethren in just two years! I don’t think anyone could have foreseen how much the ministry was to grow and develop, and how many children would benefit from the faith Steve and Mary, as well as many supporters, had for the organization. Since I last visited, many new children have been added to the program, the dormitory building for boarder students is near completion, and they have begun work on an administration building. My prayer is that we are able to trust in the Lord, that He will continue to provide for this incredible ministry!
