Mary Njeri Gicheha, aged 21, hails from Eburru village and was raised with a deep sense of purpose and resilience. The second-born of seven siblings, Mary faced significant family adversity from a young age following her parents’ separation and her mother’s struggle with mental illness. In the midst of these challenges, she was taken in by her grandmother, whose unconditional care and devotion sustained her. Mary’s path to a brighter future was later uplifted when she received the opportunity to join Camp Brethren Christian School through the kind support of Mary Njenga (CBM Director), a turning point that allowed her to excel academically despite her circumstances. Today, while her mother works hard as a hawker, Mary is pursuing a Bachelor of Education at Kabarak University.

Outside of her academic pursuits, Mary finds joy and inspiration in reading and listening to gospel music. Her decision to become a teacher is driven by a profound conviction that education is the ultimate tool to break the cycle of poverty and give every child a fair chance in life, regardless of their background. Deeply connected to her roots, Mary is determined to use her platform to give back to her village. She intends to mentor and advise young girls on the risks of early pregnancy and early marriage—challenges that cut short the education and dreams of many in her community. Through her leadership and future career, Mary aims to be a beacon of hope, ensuring the next generation of girls can safely achieve their goals.
