This year for Christmas, consider giving money to fight poverty in Kenya in honor of one of your friends or family.
Your money goes a long way in Eburru! It is amazing what a blessing even the smallest donations are in this remote African village.
Gifts can be given as a one-time donation or recurring monthly. Below is a sample of needs by category. Scroll to the bottom of the page to select a one-time donation to the General Fund; a one-time donation dedicated to Education, Medical, Agricultural, or Capital Projects; or a recurring monthly donation (ideal for child sponsorship!).
Education
The Camp Brethren Christian (CBM) School is a practical venue to not only educate, but meet the emotional, nutritional, and spiritual needs of children on a daily basis.
To fill a gap for quality education in Eburru, the CBM School was opened in 2010 and now has seven classes and 257 students. Over the next few years, the school will be built out to encompass preschool through eighth grade.
Sample school expenses include: Child Sponsorship ($30/month); teacher’s salaries ($120/month per teacher); salary for orphanage house parents ($100/month); build a classroom ($12,000); build a dorm for 100 children ($45,000).
Medical Clinic
The lack of access to medical care in Kenya results in a very high death rate from treatable diseases. Death during child birth (mother or baby) is also far too common.
These issues have all historically affected Eburru, due to the distance to travel for care and the cost of care. Our ministry is trying to eliminate these barriers to access and reduce disease incidence and mortality through the establishment of a medical clinic.
Examples of medical expenses include: nurse’s salary ($345/month); medication and medical supplies ($440/month); cost of staff and medications for a traveling clinic ($275 per day).
Feeding Program & Agriculture
One of the effects of poverty in Eburru is malnutrition. Its damaging impact can be seen throughout the community. The mental and physical development consequences, so obvious in young children, can last a lifetime.
Examples of feeding and agricultural expenses include: school cook ($21/week); farm worker’s salary ($100/month); animal feed ($200/month); build additional stall for cows ($10,000); purchase cow milking machines for increased efficiency ($7,500); buy additional super yielding milk cows ($1,750/each).
Capital Projects
By God’s grace, David’s Hope has had the privilege to help Camp Brethren with a number of major capital projects over the past couple years. It is amazing to see God tangibly moving in the construction of structures that will be used for His glory and to change lives!
Some of the completed projects include: 10-bed maternity ward, 5 school classrooms, orphanage, dining hall, and a school kitchen.
Next on our list of projects includes a well ($20,000), a school library and media center ($30,000), and a school multi-purpose hall ($35,000). You can sponsor an entire project or the portion of a project.
